Kirsten Ludwig announces new album “Sunbeam”
Today Kirsten Ludwig announces plans to release Sunbeam, the new album out November 10th via Oscar St. Records (the artist-run independent record label based in Victoria, BC founded by Kathryn Calder of The New Pornographers and Frontperson).
Sunbeam is a collection of songs that weave together modern indie rock influences, synth-powered soundscapes, and psychedelic elements. The lyrics, tinged with a sense of longing, touch upon themes of solitude, self-discovery, and the search for connection in a seemingly disconnected world. The album takes the listener on a kaleidoscopic journey through intricately layered instrumentation and sincere vocals, creating a sonic landscape that’s both nostalgic and fresh.
The announcement of Sunbeam coincides with the release of the lead single and album opener “Less” – a shattering wakeup call from a frozen daze; shimmering synths, chanting vocals, and driving drums as the backbone. “It’s an exploration of rewriting patterns, changing directions, and choosing softness,” she says. “Less” is accompanied by a beautiful, conceptually animated video with visuals by artist Amélie Haeck.
Kirsten Ludwig goes on to say: “As cheesy as it sounds, ‘Less’ is my way of acknowledging that it’s possible to let the goodness of others melt away your ice-queen tendencies. I spent over half of my twenties feeling numb to the world and, one day, a warm wave of tenderness engulfed me. It’s a head-nod to those who keep showing up for me. ‘Less’ started out as a quaint indie song with just me and my guitar. Layten Kramer (co-producer) and I knew we wanted something different from the song and we both decided to just have fun with it. My last record was this heavy, cathartic release I had been carrying around for years, so allowing myself to be playful was a new experience.”
