Chilean Synth Trio, Chicarica Announce New Album & Share Lead Single

Santiago’s Chicarica proudly announce their new album, Invierno en la playa, which arrives on May 30th. In celebration of the announcement, the band shares the album’s lead single, “Antes del día.” Created entirely independently, Invierno en la playa initiates a new era for the Chilean synthpop trio, which consists of Lorena Pulgar (vocals and synths), Martín Pérez Roa (synths), and Felipe Zenteno (synths).

Recorded in both Santiago, Chile and Coatepec, México, Invierno en la playa kicks up the tempo for Chicarica. Though it retains the band’s trademark dreamy ambiance, the new album raises the group’s BPM, where elements of 2-step and ‘80s synthpop breathe extra life into the band’s atmospheric sound. To Chicarica, the movement is “the central axis,” the area where disparate pieces converge to elicit a reaction. That reaction, here, is to dance, to skip along to the rapid tempos of “Cara” and “Donde queda” while likewise sinking into the expansiveness of “Cisne” and “Bosque de niebla.” It’s an album for the dance floor that, rather than igniting the floor beneath you, gently sweeps you up off your feet and keeps you suspended in midair using billowy synths and airy vocals.

Chicarica stands as a captivating force within Chile’s vibrant music landscape. Their sonic universe thrives on the fusion of intricate soundscapes, driven by the rhythmic pulse of drum machines and synths, all harmonized by a tender, yet subtly enchanting voice that weaves together to create an indelible auditory mosaic. When it comes to their live performances, Chicarica isn’t merely a band; they’re conductors of a mesmerizing sensory voyage. Their shows are immersive odysseys that transport the audience into a realm where beats, lights, and impromptu moments converge, effectively challenging the conventional idea of linear progression.

In the realm of music, Chicarica has been active since 2016, making waves with their impressive releases. Their portfolio boasts the EP “Dale Mami” (2018, Cazador), the LP “Arde Lento” (Quemasucabeza, 2021), and an accompanying remix LP (2021). These musical offerings have garnered widespread acclaim from the music press, firmly establishing Chicarica as innovators in the realm of pop music, rooted in the noble pursuit of crafting open-minded and forward-looking compositions for the 21st century.

With a more mature and defined sound, Chicarica explores new musical genres and themes in their latest album. Blending elements from a wide range of electronic music styles, Chicarica manages to create a unique language that feels both fresh and familiar. From synth-pop to club and dance music, to nostalgia-driven sounds, various emotions intertwine in a sea of synthesizers and samplers, where movement is the central axis.
