Hannah Bahng announces debut album “The Abysmal EP”
SYDNEY – May 1, 2024 – When you listen to singer-songwriter hannah bahng’s music, you’re not just hearing a song — you’re diving into the uncharted depths of her soul. Today, the 20-year-old rising star announced that her highly-anticipated debut record The Abysmal EP will be released on May 31 via her independent label Bahng Entertainment.
A true visual artist, hannah revealed the announcement through a trailer she both directed and produced. The clip starts off black and white as she enters a rundown building with graffiti covering the hallways. She takes a can of spray paint out of her bag and starts adding her own art to the wall. As the trailer turns to color, The Abysmal EP title is revealed with moody hues of blue that match her new hair color, setting the tone for the profound well of turbulent moods and emotions hannah will plunge into on the record.
Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, to Korean parents, hannah discovered her love for music and performance at an early age due to the enthusiastic influence of her mother. Some of her most formative childhood memories involve riding shotgun in her mom’s car and listening to Air Supply on the local radio station Smooth 95.3. As a kid, she threw herself into art. She took piano lessons, and even though she dismissed it then, she grew to love the instrument and later picked up the guitar.
For much of her adolescence, she pondered a future in music, always captivated by jazz standards and the work of Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, and Édith Piaf but searching for her own voice. In 2021, her artistic vision began to crystallize. It started with the launch of her YouTube channel, a place where she could unleash her creativity freely. She shared candid vlogs and vocal covers, quickly amassing a dedicated following who appreciated her humor and realness.
Last July, hannah launched Bahng Entertainment and released her debut single “perfect blues” alongside B-side track “OLeander,” which she wrote, composed and co-produced with her primary collaborator, Andrew Luce (Iann Dior, Role Model, Lil Nas X). Both tracks connected well with her listeners as they’ve racked up nearly 15 million streams on Spotify alone. The “perfect blues” music video, which hannah directed and produced, brought in another 4 million views while the “OLeander” performance video, also directed, produced and co-choreographed by hannah, earned over 1 million views.
She also today released the official scheduler for The Abysmal EP with key dates for the tracklist reveal (May 2), music video teasers (May 19, 26, June 4), and more.
