Heartstopper
Just in case you haven’t heard of this show by now, Heartstopper is a Netflix series based on the webcomic/novels written by queer author Alice Oseman.
I had seen a few ads for the show the first few days after its release but, as a “queer elder” I was a bit hesitant to watch a series for teens but added it to my watchlist regardless.
Finally, finding some time to sit down and watch it, I knew immediately, after the 1st episode I was, going to enjoy the show and more than likely shed some tears (which in fact I did).
I don’t want to give too much away to those who haven’t watched it yet but, this is such an impactful series given the state of society at the moment. Just when there seemed to be progress for the lgbtq+ community we’ve recently seen things like the ‘Don’t Say Gay” Bill, which can make it scary and extremely difficult for anyone to want to come out.
I don’t want to give too much away to those who haven’t seen the show yet but seeing positive stories like this might just help someone, or give them a little bit more confidence and realize that there is hope and there will be people who will support them along the way. I wish I had stories like this growing up. It definitely would’ve made a difference.
This is such a heartwarming story full of diversity, representation, lovely attention to detail with its cinematic lighting, and a great soundtrack.
So yeah, 10/10 would recommend.
