Jessy Lanza shares new single + video for “Limbo”
Today, Jessy Lanza shares her new video “Limbo,” featuring production from herself, Tensnake, and David Kennedy, the latest cut from “Love Hallucination” (Hyperdub), out July 28th. “Don’t Leave Me Now” and “Midnight Ontario” arrived earlier this year, revealing a newer, poppier side to Jessy’s sound. Eager fans can catch an early listen of the record on Bandcamp on July 25th at 2pm ET. Later this fall, Jessy embarks on a headlining tour of North America.
“Limbo” is a soft-but-scrappy cut of synthpop. Told from an anxious, exhilarating place of indecision, a classic ‘should I stay or should I go’ conundrum, the lyrics spell it all out, “L-I-M-B-OHHH,” leaving no question to its purpose. The percussive elements pulse like impatient heartbeats while the synths conjure a dreamy sheen, all while Jessy spurs her target to tip the scales.
Balance, too, plays a role in the “Limbo” video. From an otherwise unassuming living room, a leather-suited figure straps themselves into their inversion table as technicolor lights play on the television set. It’s no Jane Fonda Workout, but it encourages movement all the same, enough motion to get other things moving.
“The video stars our neighbor Conrad who moonlights as a web-cammer for a living,” Jessy shares. “He revealed that he sometimes uses an inversion table in his webcam sessions and it seemed like the perfect visualization of the themes in the song.”
