MUNA to be honored at Los Angeles LGBT Center Gala on May 18th
The Los Angeles LGBT Center, the world’s largest queer-serving nonprofit organization, announced that LA pop trio MUNA will receive the Leslie Jordan Award for Excellence in the Arts as well as perform at this year’s gala held at LA’s historic Shrine Auditorium. The annual benefit raises crucial funding for LGBTQ+ community services.
On being honored, MUNA said: “It feels very surreal to be receiving this honor from the LA LGBT Center. We love being gay, and we love our community. We are thrilled to be included in what will surely be a special evening and we’re excited to commune with everyone and energize each other in this ongoing struggle for our rights and well-being. We look forward to continuing to foster a deep relationship with the queer community in this city that we love so much.”
Also honored at the event will be Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Award-winning and Oscar-nominated actor, singer, songwriter and producer Cynthia Erivo as well as Mickalene Thomas, considered one of the most influential visual artists of our time
In 2023, the Center Gala raised over $1.2M with 800 supporters coming together to honor the author and activist Pamela Anderson, Emmy-winning actress Keke Palmer, and the beloved entertainer Leslie Jordan (posthumously) for their contributions to the LGBTQ+ community.
