New York-based rock trio Sunflower Bean have made a momentous appearance on COLORSxSTUDIOS, becoming one of the first rock acts to perform on the globally acclaimed platform. Known for its minimalist aesthetic and genre-defining performances, COLORS has long been a launchpad for artists across R&B, hip-hop, and experimental pop. The COLORS SHOW session coincides with the band’s recently released and most transformative record to date, Mortal Primetime—an album born from upheaval, introspection, and rebirth. In the three years since their last LP Headful of Sugar, members Julia Cumming (vocals, bass), Nick Kivlen (vocals, guitar), and Olive Faber (drums) pursued personal paths, enduring challenges, loss, and reinvention. Emerging from that period with renewed purpose, Mortal Primetime is Sunflower Bean’s first self-produced album—a testament to creative resilience and unity. As Cumming puts it, “You get to decide what your prime is, and you fight for it. This is ours.” Mixed by Caesar Edmunds (The Killers, Wet Leg) and engineered by Sarah Tudzin (Illuminati Hotties, boygenius), the record draws from alternative rock, dreamy psychedelia, and widescreen ambition to craft a sound that’s unmistakably their own – grounded in past triumphs yet surging toward the future.
Sunflower Bean are currently on tour throughout North America, and will perform in Los Angeles this Friday, June 6 at the Lodge Room. Today the band also announce headline UK and EU tour dates for this autumn in support of Mortal Primetime. Renowned for their blistering live shows, Sunflower Bean will bring their powerful new material to the UK/EU this October, culminating in a headline performance at London’s The Dome.
