TYA Ignites The Queer Indie Pop Scene With Their Latest Single “Venetian Blind”

After a spectacular 2023 comeback, Canadian alt-pop artist, TYA (tie-ah) returns gender euphoric and better than ever, having just won Best Music Video at the Toronto International Music Video Festival and debuting their tap-dancing live show to enthusiastic audiences from SOCAL to CANADA. TYA’s (she/they) penchant for writing and delivering powerhouse vocals with heartfelt image-laden lyrics is on full display in their first single of 2024.

“Venetian Blind” is TYA’s most vulnerable track yet expressing an unrequited sensual longing for someone who’s already “left out the side door”! Introducing an RnB Pop flare to TYA’s production collaborating with a team of superstar producers, this song is all about wanting the person you can’t have… hard.

“Entertainment is in my blood,” TYA says. “That’s all I know.” It’s no surprise the Vancouver-based alternative pop artist recalls an intrinsic desire to create since their earliest days. TYA was born in Las Vegas, Nevada to two theatre artist parents (her mother was a Can-can dancer at Paris’s famed Moulin Rouge before meeting her father, who played a giraffe in the Broadway musical The Lion King). TYA had a rather unique upbringing. Spending their formative years on the road touring with her parents they were born to be an artist, and now, after what feels like a lifetime spent backstage, it’s finally their turn to step into the spotlight.

TYA’s pop music debut has been a long time coming. They’ve always had a natural talent for singing, and their introduction to songwriting also came early in the form of poems they’d write to sing along to the rhythmic percussion of her father’s tap dancing. A talented actor and dancer in their own right, TYA has a long list of credits, including Netflix’s Midnight Club and NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. With more music, videos, and live shows on the horizon in 2024, this is just the beginning for TYA.
