LSQ Podcast Releases 100th Double Episode ft. Sam Herring & Brittany Howard
During her nearly 30 years as a music journalist, Jenny Eliscu’s work has focused on helping artists tell their authentic stories in print, on the radio, in podcasts and, more recently, in documentary form. Now, Eliscu is celebrating the 100th episode of her LSQ podcast, which features an in-depth conversation with Future Islands’ Samuel T. Herring. She has also shared episode 101, with Brittany Howard, to mark the occasion. LSQ is available HERE.
Eliscu also emceed the inaugural Resonator Awards from We Are Moving the Needle on Jan. 31 in Los Angeles, during which Alanis Morissette, Corinne Bailey Rae, Caroline Polachek, Catherine Marks, Laura Sisk and Jennifer Decilveo were recognized for their work in the recording studio as producers, engineers and mixers. Eliscu launched the independent LSQ in the fall of 2017. These interviews focus on artists’ earliest moments of creativity – the music and arts that inspired them as a child, the concerts and albums that blew their minds, the early songwriting efforts that shaped their approach and how their music-making practices have evolved over the years. Recent guests have included Sleater-Kinney, Jason Isbell, Joy Oladokun and Alvvays’ Molly Rankin.
“Talking to Jenny Eliscu makes you feel like the most intriguing person in the room thinks you’re the most interesting person in the world,” says Tegan and Sara’s Tegan Quin. “With her years of experience, Jenny isn’t afraid to go deep, but you trust the process because along with great questions and exceptional listening, she peppers in memorable insights from her vast knowledge and love for music. Jenny knows more about the music that influenced most of us to become artists in the first place than we do, and so no interview is ever typical. Somehow you learn something about yourself in the process.”
“I first met Jenny well over a decade ago, and honestly, she made me feel so at ease instantly that it didn’t feel like the first meeting at all,” commented Beach House’s Victoria Legrand. “Felt like we had always known each other. Interviews with her have always felt like natural conversations, and as simple as that may sound, it is a true skill. Her deep love of art, of music, of love – and her deep care and support for the relationships forged is incredibly beautiful. She is a pillar of strength and peace and I am lucky as an artist to call her a friend.”
Born in Queens, N.Y., Eliscu began her career as a writer and editor at college radio bible CMJ in 1995. From 1999-2011, she was a contributor at Rolling Stone, penning features and cover stories on artists including Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse, Mariah Carey and Dave Matthews Band, among others. Eliscu also specializes in discovering and championing up-and-coming artists; at Rolling Stone, she was one the first national magazine writers to cover the Strokes, the White Stripes, Vampire Weekend and many more.
Following her series of Rolling Stone features on Britney Spears, including a 2008 cover story exposing the machinery behind the artist’s conservatorship, Eliscu was enlisted for the 2021 Netflix documentary Britney Vs. Spears, which she executive produced and in which she appears extensively as part of the on-camera investigation. She is currently in production on another major music documentary, due later this year.
Since 2006, Eliscu has been an on-air host and interviewer for Sirius XM, where she hosts daily shows on indie music channel Sirius XMU and Triple A channel The Spectrum.
